  Ok a week ago I wrote about my friend who with more than 15 years in got fired,Well guess what?They called her this week and offered her a lower position and lower pay.She has no choice,if she refuses,she can't collect unemployment and she has two small kids.Dirty Dirty Dirty.They will get rid of us one way or another

Did she file for unemployment?   Last time I was fired, I applied, and they gave it to me.  I assume the company didn't contest it.  That was back in 1992, so I realize they may have gotten stricter since way back then.

you can collect but since they offered her a job she had to take it,can not collect if you turn down a jb offer.

 when i got fired i didnt get it although only because i had to wait the one week..i did get a letter back saying i was qualified after review of my case..even though wm told me i wouldn't be..guess even the unemployment folks could see they did a dirty

Yeah, I rescinded my application on a job one time because I felt that the guy who interviewed me was unethical.

The system can be worked to the favour of both yourself or the employer. Just remember how many are receiving UI and do not deserve it. It is not a question of dirty tricks but how to use the system, also hearing things second or third hand.... remember the telephone game?

A friend of mine was out for 12 weeks, due to surgery.  She had been at the store for 9 years.  Now she's part time in TLE.  She feels angry and betrayed, and can't afford to live on the hours she gets.
I guess 12 weeks is the max you can be out?  Someone fill me in.

That is the rule, after 12 weeks you are terminated now and told to re-apply if you don't like the choices of what they offer you.  They can't wait until the long termers are all gone it seems like it anyway.  And just like your friend if they do offer you anything it is the crap shifts, the job that no one wants, and you lose your benefits too when you drop down to part time. What a payback for your friend after 9 years.

 i believe under fmla signed by clinton that yeah its 12 weeks...12 weeks and 1 day you are not guaranteed a job anymore...up to 12 weeks they are required to hold a job by federal law.....beyond that its courtesy for them to have a job for you..e.ven my old sm was held to this..he was out for over 12 weeks with his wife who had cancer and was told he had to come back if he wanted his job and he couldn't...she was way too sick...so he's not with that store anymore

we just had a n associate who hade to come back to work or reapply for a part time job.He had surgey and because he is diabetic,it took a long time for him to heal.

Folks who were fulltime and then go PT should be able to keep insurance coverage on themselves.  That's the way it used to be, anyway.  I was PT in 1995, when I had my first shoulder surgery.  I was actually working 8 hours a week.  While I was out, the Personnel Mgr put in Personal time and sick time, so that my insurance was paid.  Hard to believe that ever happened, huh?

That wouldn't happen now.  The new rules are designed for a part time work force.  They are no longer a family business, dept. mgrs. were told this at a recent meeting.  It was stated this is not Walton WW, it is corporate WW and as such it will be treated as a business model from now on.  Wow, just Wow.
